Lorraine Boyd, Northern Ireland Union of Supported Employment asks -
Can the panel members advise the audience on their stance on disability and who within each of the parties champions the issues of disability? In light of the departure of Patricia Lewsley who will chair the All Party Working Group on disability?
Disabled people still remain furthest removed from the labour market and susceptible to social exclusion and poverty. What has been included in each of the party manifestos on employment of disabled individuals?
Claire Lavery RNID asks
How can we be assured that ministers in any future assembly will work together to achieve cross-departmental aims, even if from diametrically opposed parties? This is with particular reference to the need for a fully integrated support service for deaf babies across the Department of Education and DHSSPS.
Alan McClure RNID asks
With an emphasis on moving unemployed people into voluntary work to prepare for employment, how will profoundly deaf people participate? Currently there is no government scheme to fund communication support for those on incapacity benefit.
Daniel Kane, RNIB
How would the panel propose to ensure that there is no gap between departments’ apparent compliance between disability and equality legislation and actual execution on the ground.
