Election doesn’t matter. Nonsense

Some people say the election on 7 March does not matter. There may not even be an Assembly and, even if there is one, it will collapse after a few months – so there’s no point in voting, they say.

They are wrong. Social change does not happen overnight but through an extended process of agitating, campaigning, arguing and persuading. That may be frustrating but it is the way the world works. Over the centuries we thought we saw revolutions in France, Russia and elsewhere but they have been illusions because nothing changes unless people’s minds change, and that takes time and effort. Military victories may subdue the defeated but they are no basis for peaceful reconstruction.
